To get started, the best way is to take a good course, read lots of books, go to as many different seminars and workshops as you can and help out at a good dog training school. The emphasis here is on 'good'. There are lots of courses available – all will teach you something, but some are better than others.

Join a professional organization Many organizations host seminars and other events where dog trainers can learn new methods for training and share their own knowledge. You may also be able to network with employers while attending meetings with industry organizations and find new roles as a dog trainer.

Puppies have short attention spans, so training sessions should be brief but occur often. You can start to introduce basic commands which are sit, stay, down, come, heel, off, no and drop it using food rewards and positive reinforcement to encourage your puppy.
